~30 Minute Figure Sketches
Here are a couple of 30 minute sketches I did later last week. I've been enjoying practicing my figure work and I've found a few great resources online that scroll through random pictures based on a few setting for subject matter and time between changes.

Light and Color Fun
I was playing around with color and lighting and love painting landscapes. This is what I came up with. I like how the subtle color changes turned out throughout the mountains. I also wanted to throw a figure in there, I usually don't get around do doing that, but I've been really meaning to do that more. Get some more interesting poses and dynamic movement incorporated with the scenes.

Peep Hole
I've been working on some icons for my job and this one turned out to be a pretty creative. It's simple and comic-like, which is not my usual style, but I enjoy this. I like viewing it as a curious hole that someone is peering through at the same time you are. I think the eye has good curious or even creepy personality behind it.

30sec & 60sec figure gestures
I enjoy doing the quick 30 - 60 second figure sketches every now and then. It keeps me on my toes and loosens me up, keeping me from getting caught up in detail.

Story Scenes WIP
Here's another work in progress. I'm still figuring out exactly where I'm going with it. This I want to be part of a series of paintings that are based on scenes I interpret from some of my favorite books. We'll see how disciplined I can be to continue this series in my limited free time!

Pirate's Set
Here's another older illustration of mine, done around the time of the Disturbed Entertainment. I was painting for fun one day and wanted to practice painting an ocean scene with some nice lighting from a sunset. This painting really steered me towards figuring out the techniques I use to create more realistic skies and it got me thinking about how light reacts, shines through, and reflects off of these gaseous masses during different times of the day. Creating paintings like this really inspired me to focus on the beauty of nature and scenery that I experience on a daily basis.

Disturbed Entertainment
Here is another blast from the past. This was one of my first fully completed digital paintings done in Photoshop without any reference. I think this painting has been instrumental in helping to show my style, although, over the years, it definitely has changed.

Self Portrait: 2012
I've created a self portrait of myself, something I haven't done since my freshman year of college. I created it mainly because I needed a more artistic profile picture that speaks more of my artwork rather than just a photograph. I had fun with it, though, and I think the sum of all the parts turned out nicely.

Water Drop
Here's an oldie. I painted this as a fun portfolio piece, focusing on achieving nice realistic water reflections.

Z Tutorials Intro Progress Screen
I'm currently working on creating a 3D animated intro in Maya for the tutorial videos I'm putting together. Here's the 3D text's final framing. I think the lighting is turning out nicely. The camera does a fly by near the text and turns around it before ending in this location. Once the 3D is rendered, I'll probably do some post work in After Effects to make the stage a bit more interesting.

Idiocracy Concepts and Matte Paintings
A few years ago I worked with a small post production company called Stargate Digital. My main purpose, while I was there, was to be the 3D artist in the Matte Painting department. Eventually my Photoshop and other artistic skills stood out and I was tasked to create these concept paintings and matte paintings for the film Idiocracy. This was my first eye opening experience in the entertainment/post production industry.

Piranha Purgatory Character Concepts
This is a series of character concepts I created for an old job designing cellphone games. This idea was for a game called Piranha Purgatory where you'd swim around as a ghost piranha scaring other fish to increase your score.

The Importance of Domains
Here's a fun post. I just finished a motion graphics video for the company I work for. It was a fun project that I don't get to do very often, but it looks like 2012 is the year for informational videos at my company, so I'm excited to do more. Hopefully I find some time to utilize my 3D skills as well.
For this video, I did everything from planning the script, storyboards, concepts, and an animatic, to the final motion graphics, video and sound editing, and recorded my own voice over.
Here's a side by side video of a section of the animatic showing the storyboards I created and the final motion graphics.

Rose Sketch
I'll bring some older sketches that I've added to my sketches sub-page up to the front here and tell you a little bit about them.
I painted this rose in Painter for my girlfriend. Of course she likes flowers and enjoyed the painting as her iphone background for a while. I've always liked the natural brush stroke effect and paint mixing in Painter and need to work more with it.

It’s past time that I start getting my work back up online so I’ve decided to throw up a couple of images I’ve done recently to get things rolling!

Artwork Coming Soon!
Blog content and artwork coming soon!
I will post my art work, new and old, for everyone to enjoy. Here's an egg for you in the mean time. I created this in Illustrator, it's all vector shapes and gradients so it's workable in very large formats.
